An online Threat Response module has been developed by the facilities department that provides the Emily Carr community with information on how best to respond to an active threat on campus.
This has been developed in response to the incident on campus last December and is a WorkSafeBC requirement to complete. The information is based on current best practice recommended by experts in the field, including law enforcement and has been reviewed and endorsed by members of the Safety Committee, CUPE and Faculty Association representatives.
While the content can be upsetting, it is important information to give individuals the best chance at survival, if such a situation occurs. It is also important to note that while these types of events do occur, they are quite uncommon and the best way to mitigate these situations is to consider reporting behaviors when there is concern for self-harm or harm to others within our community.
The link below will direct you to the module. Please take a few minutes to complete the module and accompanying quiz.
- click on log-in option top right,

Additionally, Duncan Webb, the Safety & Security Manager, can meet with departments in-person to review the strategies in relation to your specific work areas. Please have a department member contact me to organize a time. Please feel free to contact Duncan if you have any questions.
