The Centre for Innovation and Excellence in Learning at VIU will be hosting the fourth annual Vancouver Island University Teaching and Learning Conference on May 10-12, 2017 at the Nanaimo Campus. This event is an exciting opportunity to explore, discuss and learn new teaching ideas and best practices from our VIU colleagues and others from across B.C. and Canada.
This year’s conference theme is: Celebrating Impactful Assessment
Assessment is more—much more—than evaluation. It’s the starting point for learning. It’s the means by which we generate feedback necessary for growth and progress. It’s how we get students to take stock of their assets, so they can assume greater responsibility for their own journey.
Assessment is, fundamentally, the process that promotes learning for all of us, students and teachers alike. Join us for three days of engagement, in which we consider the concept of assessment in all of its manifestations: not just assessment OF learning, but also FOR learning and AS learning.
The conference will feature three keynotes, face-to-face and online workshops, and an exciting set of “teaching slams”, all focused on sharing different approaches to teaching and learning.
Come learn new ideas for your classroom and take the opportunity to share your own best practices! We look forward to seeing you at VIU’s Teaching and Learning Conference.
Our pre-conference virtual sessions take place on May 10th with an online keynote speaker. These will be synchronous online sessions which you may attend from your office or home. Details on connecting to the online session will be sent to registrants.
The face-to-face conference will be May 11-12, 2017 on the Nanaimo campus with two keynote talks (one each morning).
Registration will open in early January.
