There are two Professional Development (PD) Funds for Faculty.

Submit completed forms to the Human Resources Office.

  • Pedagogy + Practice Fund– open to all Faculty (Regular and Non-Regular)
    • Submissions are approved as they are received
    • Pro-rated on the basis of FTE
    • Regular Faculty may request an advance up to one year’s worth of allocation
    • Non-Regular Teaching eligibility: must have taught at least two prior semesters (as from January 1, 2006), or, are currently teaching a minimum of 40% at the time of request
    • Non-Regular Counselors and Librarians eligibility: contracts that are a minimum of 4 months
    • Non-Regulars: pd activities and expenses must take place during your contracted period
    • Submission deadlines for Non-Regulars, 1 month after end of contract for expenses incurred during contract period
    • Submission deadlines for Regular Faculty, expenses need to be submitted in the same fiscal year as your expenditure
    • Original receipts are required, Finance keeps them on file for a minimum of 7 years in case you need to access the receipts for warranty purposes
    • Finance now requires boarding passes to be submitted for flight reimbursements
  • Scholarship + Research Fund– open only to Regular Faculty
    • Submission dates September 15, January 15, May 1
    • Applicants will be considered every year, however, priority may be given to those applicants who have not submitted in the previous year
    • Scholarship + Research annual fund base is approximately $12,000
    • Expenses need to be submitted in the same fiscal year as your expenditure
    • Original receipts are required, Finance keeps them on file for a minimum of 7 years in case you need to access the receipts for warranty purposes
    • Finance now requires boarding passes to be submitted for flight reimbursements

PD Committee Faculty Representatives:

PD Committee Management Representatives:
Michael Clifford, David MacWilliam, Anne Stobart

The committee meets at least 3 times a year in September (20th), January (20th) and May (10th) to deal with ordinary business and approve Research + Scholarship submissions.

Decisions are approved by a majority vote and recommendations are sent to the Vice President, Academic for final approval.


FAQ

How are Faculty PD Funds calculated?

  • As of April 1, 2006, the University established a Faculty PD Fund of .6% of the salaries of Faculty Members. (this is what was bargained and is in our collective agreement)
  • 83% of the fund goes to the Practice + Pedagogy Fund
  • 17% plus an equal supplement from Operational funds goes to the Scholarship + Research Fund. (the top up is not in our collective agreement but was a friendly agreement by Michael Clifford to boost the fund amount)

  • 2010/11 $600

How does the Faculty PD Fund compare to CUPE and ADMIN?

  • CUPE PD Funds are a fixed amount that are reviewed and adjusted periodically
  • ADMIN PD Funds are based on 2% of salaries
  • Faculty PD Funds are based on .6% of salaries
